Mission

Our approach to mission is to encourage individual members, and the church as a whole, to prayerfully listen for God’s call to mission, and for us to help them then pursue their call. The following are some of the missions Calvin Church supports:

PCUSA GHANA MISSION NETWORK

ANANIAS MISSION

Calvin Church has been committed to assist with Syrian Refugee Relocation through the Ananias Mission. To date, the Ananias Mission  has partnered with St. Catharines Catholic Diocese in Ontario and solely funded the relocation of 23 people (5 families) from Syria to Canada and all have arrived safely.  Adults have found employment and children are in schools.  They have also financially assisted the individual parishes for another 27 people (who we did not find ourselves) get situated there. Visit their page on Facebook, or click the link below to visit their website.

BIKE MISSION

The "Bike Mission" at Calvin Church kicked off in the Spring of 2015. We have collected bicycles of all kinds and condition, repairing them, and delivering them to the Pine Ridge Reservation in South Dakota. Members of our church and community have worked side by side to collect and fix the bikes. In June 2017, 4 members of Calvin Church drove rented trucks to South Dakota, and delivered 128 bikes to the poorest districts of the Pine Ridge reservation. We plan to continue this mission with hopes of delivering over 100 bikes again this summer.

MISSION TRIP SUPPORT

Calvin Church is committed to being a permission-giving, mission-supporting congregation that nurtures and encourages everyone’s personal calling to mission. We find ways to raise funds and offer other support for individuals called to mission. Over the past few years we’ve supported members helping to build a preschool in South Africa, a medical mission to Lithuania, several mission trips to Haiti and Mexico, and disaster relief and clean-up effort after weather catastrophes in New Jersey, Indianapolis, and Missouri.

NARCOTICS ANONYMOUS

Calvin Church hosts a Narcotics Anonymous meeting for those in recovery from addiction. The meetings are on Wednesday evenings from 7:00-8:00  p.m. in Faith House.

PARTNERSHIP WITH OTI PRESBYTERY

Calvin Church is a partner in mission with the Oti Presbytery in eastern Ghana.  Members of Calvin Church have visited Ghana to further our partnership and participate in the Ghana Mission Network meeting, a gathering for U.S. and Ghanaian mission partners to collaborate and exhort one another in Christ’s work.

PRESBYTERIAN CHURCH (USA)

Disaster Relief
Calvin Church periodically provides funds to support the work of our denomination’s Disaster Relief organization, which has helped people recover from earthquakes in Pakistan and Haiti, tornados and hurricanes

SAMARITAN COUNSELING

Beginning in July 2018, Samaritan Counseling, Guidance, Consulting is opening a satellite for their counseling services in Faith House. Their counselors will be available to make a difference in helping people of our larger community heal from their hidden emotional, mental, relational, and spiritual wounds. Their counselors are licensed therapists who are trained to work with adults, teens, children, couples, and families who are struggling to make a difference. As a client-centered center, they work with people from all faith perspectives, as well as with those who have little faith. Their focus is on offering competent, compassionate counseling. We will join with their eight other offices, all of which are in churches throughout the Western Pennsylvania area.

Samaritan Counseling, Guidance, Consulting is a non-profit center that accepts insurance and also offers sliding scale assistance for those without insurance or who are in difficult economic situations. For more information, please see their website: www.samaritancounseling.net

SPECIAL MISSION FUND

Calvin Church is committed to helping people locally and in the region meet their basic needs and respond to crisis. The Special Mission Fund is a monetary fund that can be used to assist with emergency needs such as rent and utility arrears but the mission committee is led by God’s calling in a variety of areas of need.

30-HOUR FAMINE

We sponsor an annual 30-hour fast to raise awareness and funds for hunger projects supported by World Vision, an international hunger and relief organization.

YOUTH MISSION TRIPS

Each year Calvin Church sends out two mission trips, while also encouraging and supporting individual members to go on mission trips. The two Calvin trips are for youth to work at Camp Westminster on Higgins Lake in Michigan. Camp Westminster is a ministry of Westminster Presbyterian Church of Detroit, and is devoted to giving inner-city children an opportunity to discover and learn about nature, while also growing spiritually.

ZELIENOPLE FOOD CUPBOARD
